About the Curator

Mr. NPS Chawla is a commerce and a law graduate having over 15 years of experience as a practicing Advocate. Apart from holding a masters’ degree in law and management, he is also a fellow member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) registered as an Insolvency Professional with the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India. Mr. Chawla has been the Chairman of the Northern India Regional Council of the ICSI in the year 2015 and is currently a Central Council Member of the ICSI for the term 2019-2022. He is also an Executive Member (co-opted) of the NCLT & AT Bar Association.

Mr. Chawla has extensive experience in handling corporate litigation assignments, including insolvency matters, domestic and international commercial arbitrations, shareholder disputes, commercial suits, liquidations, and a wide range of corporate law matters. He also specializes in handling corporate restructuring matters including mergers, demergers, compromise, arrangements, reduction of capital, slump sale, minority squeezing, family settlements, succession planning, buy-outs, financial distress remedies, on turn-key basis, from conceptualization of the structure to implementation by appearance before the Tribunals.

He has been involved in complex litigation and restructuring assignments, also involving application of foreign laws in matters before the courts of the United States of America. Mr. Chawla has also been actively involved in some of the most successful corporate turnarounds in Insolvency regime in the country.

Mr. Chawla has appeared and argued matters before Supreme Court, almost all High Courts of the country, National Company Law Appellate Tribunal, National Company Law Tribunal, Company Law Board, Securities and Exchange Board of India, Securities Appellate Tribunal, Appellate Tribunal for Foreign Exchange, Debts Recovery Tribunal, District and State Consumer Forum, Civil Courts, Regional Directors under Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Arbitral Tribunals, Sessions and Magistrate Courts across NCR in a variety of matters including company law, securities law, contractual and commercial disputes, insolvency and rehabilitation laws, arbitration proceedings, consumer disputes, criminal proceedings, banking disputes and real estate disputes.

He is actively involved in various professional and industry associations. He is an avid orator and has delivered lectures at several conferences and seminars organized by leading professional bodies and chambers of commerce, ICAI, ICSI, ICWAI, ICSI IIP, ICAI IIP, BVP and various other Management and Law Colleges on subjects like M&A, Corporate Restructuring, Insolvency Law, Judgments by NCLT & AT and other similar/ related issues. He has also authored many articles on Corporate Restructuring, Insolvency Law, Judgments by NCLT & AT, Stamp Duty implications and other related topics.
